Impact rather than Impress

“So teach us to number our days, so that we may get a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12

I recently attended the funeral of an old friend; someone we went to church with for many years before coming to Eastern Hills. It came as a surprise to me since I didn’t know he had been ill for a couple of years. I was so blessed by the touching eulogies. One of the things that was said about Dan was that he never tried to impress, but instead he cared about impacting people’s lives. As evidenced by the many testimonials, he truly did have an impact for Jesus. He counted his days and made the most of them for the Lord. He lived his faith by sharing the Gospel and taking an interest in people. That is truly a gift. It gave me a new appreciation for my friend.

It also spurs me on to think of the legacy that I will leave. On this side of 60, I hope that my life will be remembered in a way that honors God and that I will have made an impact for the Lord in people’s lives. I know that Dan heard the words, “well done, good and faithful servant.”
