We are partnering with Journey's End to set up an apartment for a refugee family. We want to welcome this family with a new place to call home.
We no longer need any donated items for the refugees. We are grateful for the overabundance donated by our church.
It has almost been a year since our sponsored refugee family arrived in Buffalo and we want to update you on the great progress they have made. Through the generous support of many of you, we were able to set them up in an apartment on Grant Street near Buffalo State. As expected it has been a big adjustment but they have mentioned to us how much easier it has been for them than for other families that didn't have the benefit of a church providing help and encouragement.
Abdul, the father, determined to provide for his family, quickly found a job. Umeir and Aleena, the two oldest children, have adjusted very well to school and are speaking English fluently. Sabina, the mother, is at home with the two youngest children but is still anxious to help out providing for her family too. One of our church members provided a sewing machine and another is teaching Sabina how to sew! Many have contributed with trips to the doctors, shopping and sight-seeing. One member even helped Abdul fill out his tax return!
As you can imagine a family of six generates a lot of laundry. Sabina spends Saturdays at the laundromat while Sundays are spent doing the grocery shopping. They are saving for a washer and dryer. If you are aware of a washer or dryer for sale in good condition let us know. This would free them up to spend Saturdays together as a family.
You all have truly made a positive impact on this precious family. Please continue to pray for them as they adjust to life in Buffalo and that they will see Jesus in all that has been done for them!
