“Surely He took up our pain and bore our suffering … the punishment that brought us peace was on Him…” Isaiah 53:4a-5b

God the Father invited the Son into His work by offering Him the opportunity to provide the way of redemption. A perfect sacrifice was needed, and only God Himself could provide it. No man could take up their pain, endure the suffering they deserve. I must punish sin, but if I punish You for their sin, I will declare them righteous and bring them peace. What a transaction!

That is why Jesus said that “the thief comes to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)

Today, take time to list what of yours Jesus took on, and what He gave you in exchange. Then thank Him for the fullness of life He has given you.

Lord, thank You for exchanging my sorrow for joy, and my death for life, experiencing Your life in me. Amen.
